According to a person familiar with the latest strategy, in addition to Castor, lawyers David Schoen, Michael van der Veen and William Brennan are all expected to talk during Friday's arguments. Using videos from Democratic lawmakers, they plan to argue that by re-creating the January 6 riot, Democrats glorified violence, say the trial is illegal, and emphasize Trump's First Amendment rights.

Trump wants to see more attorneys on TV defending him, a source acquainted with his thoughts said Thursday. In the midst of the impeachment trial Thursday, Schoen left the Senate to do a live interview on Fox News.

As Castor made a meandering opening argument during which he praised the prosecutors, Trump exploded Tuesday. Several of Trump's supporters lobbied him that day to get rid of Castor, which, according to two individuals, Trump briefly contemplated. As he watched many individuals, including his regular allies on Fox News, trash Castor's results, Trump was angry. But Castor remained on the team and is expected to be present on Friday, at least in part. He told people that he wasn't intending to speak on Tuesday, resulting in a muddled speech. Castor also admitted on the Senate floor that, because Democrats made such a good opening statement, he switched speaking roles with Schoen.
